FAQ

What exactly is a ceramic coating? A ceramic coating is a durable, long-lasting, protective sealant that bonds to your paint for years, not weeks or months like traditional waxes or sealants. It creates a barrier between your clearcoat and damaging elements and the slickness is so good that foreign particulants have a hard time sticking to it. This means your car will actually stay cleaner longer requiring fewer washings. Fewer washings reduces the chances of creating swirl marks and scratched during the washing and drying process. Ultimately your car's value is maintained by keeping it clean, glossy, and as scratch-free as possible.

How long do ceramic coatings last? Coatings are typically engineered to last between 2 – 6 years but some even last up to 10 years. Longevity also depends on how well coated cars are maintained and how much exposure to outside elements they are subjected to.

After applying, do I have to maintain it? Yes and No. Let me explain. Coatings are so durable that you can just go about your business and let the coating do its job. It tightly bonds to surfaces and are designed to last. Although, not taking steps to care for your coating can certainly reduce the life of its shine and protective properties. Over time coatings can deminish but a few simple steps will help maintain its beauty and protective characteristics to increase it's durability and longevity.

How do I take care of a coating? The best way is to hand-wash your car at least once a month using a traditional pH-neutral car shampoo. In addition, you can apply a booster sealant, that is silica dioxide (SiO2) based, at least once a year to create a protective layer for the coating.  Note: Carnauba-based wax products are not recommended as they tend to mask and impede coatings from performing as designed.

If manually washing isn't your thing, simply drive through a well kept automatic car wash, touchless car washes are the safest, and then wipe it down with a CLEAN microfiber drying towel.

How long does the coating process take? The process usually takes about 8 hours but can take up to 16 hours depending on the size of car and amount of paint polishing is needed. Coatings need at least 24 hours to cure, longer in cold weather, during which time exposure to outdoor elements must be avoided. Allow 3 days for full cure and maximum hardness to take place.

Polishing paint can be time consuming. Learn more about the polishing process by clicking HERE.

NOTE: While ceramic coatings offer superb protection, they do not prevent rock chips or other road debris from severely damaging clear coats and paint. Paint Protection Film (PPF) offers a higher level of protection but typically costs 5 to 10 time more and can reduce the reflective shine of paint. PPF can also benefit with an application of a ceramic coat to increase durability and lifespan.
